Distance Education Policies and Procedures

The FA believes that a successful DE program depends on having a strong network of experienced faculty—including DE practitioners and healthy skeptics—working to ensure that the DE courses are of high academic quality.

The rules governing distance education courses are shaped primarily by our FA contract. Those contract provisions are linked below.

In addition, during the last round of negotiations, resulting in the 2005-2011 contract, the composition of the college's Distance Education Committee (DEC) was revised to emphasize the academic role of the recommending body. Most significantly, DEC now has two governance-elected faculty members from each of the three campuses in addition to an FA-appointed representative.
