Faculty Retraining Application

faculty development workshop Funding for the retraining and development assistance program is provided by the county in an amount up to $30,000 per year. The secretary of the FA co-chairs the Faculty Development & Retraining Committee with the college Vice President of Academic Affairs and hosts faculty development & retraining workshops every February to help members prepare their applications.

Applications are due no later than April 15 prior to the academic period in which the activity will be pursued. Applicants will be notified by May 30 of each academic year if they are awarded financial support. Faculty may apply for financial assistance for professional development activities, including workshops, short courses, academic presentations, field research, seminars, or other similar activities.

The first priority is retraining into disciplines or areas for which growth is expected. Therefore, tuition is granted for a retraining program first. In February 2023, administration announced that they are supporting retraining in the following areas:

  • Information Technology

  • Human Services

  • Cybersecurity

  • Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Biology

  • Arts (Photography, Digital Media and Animation)

  • Automotive for Hybrid and EV

  • Electrical Technology

  • Surgical Technology

The monies that remain are then allocated to faculty development. If no one applied for retraining, then the entire $30,000 is allocated for development.

Those that apply for development during the academic year are considered first for this money. If there is money remaining, it will then be allocated to summer development. Applications for summer development are due no later than April 15 prior to the summer this activity will be pursued. The amount of money available will vary each year. Applicants will be notified by May 30 if they are awarded financial support for faculty development.
