If you've found it draining to teach and talk to a screen of faceless grey squares, consider finding reinvigoration by volunteering for Professors on Wheels.

Professors on Wheels is not about giving a classroom lecture. This is a chance to share your knowledge and passions with others. Rehabilitation and nursing homes across Suffolk County are reaching out to the FA asking for in-person visits by Professors on Wheels faculty. Our volunteer professors can present any topic of interest, a craft or skill, a musical performance, an art presentation and more. This is a wonderful way to share with a community of seniors who appreciate your time and talents.

If you’d like to volunteer but can’t make an in-person visit, consider making a brief video for the FA YouTube channel. You can choose to make your video public or private, accessible only to the nursing homes to which we grant access. You have control over your content, which can be streamed and enjoyed many times over.

Here's how it works: Title and write a brief overview of your topic. Indicate if you would need technology, indicate your general availability and you are ready to go. You will be matched up with a rehab or nursing home based on interest and availability. This deeply rewarding volunteer service is a wonderful way to bring smiles to many lonely seniors in our communities.

If interested, please email me, Christina Bosco Langert, for a volunteer form and/or for instructions on recording a YouTube video.
