Special elections being held in the EC
Cynthia Eaton

Special elections for EC vacancies are being held now

We have a few vacancies on our Executive Council—and that situation needs to be amended, ASAP.

For a few positions, the current EC rep has indicated a desire to run again. As noted in our June issue, between the unusual pandemic-remote semester and the truncated timeline this February (from call for nominations to close of nominations), a few EC reps who had intended to continue as an EC rep missed the close of nominations deadline.

Thus, as outlined in our Elections Procedures, we are holding special elections now to fill these vacancies. The call for nominations in each of the following areas will go out to each constituency listed below by email.

If there are any contested elections in these areas, they will be conducted by U.S. Postal Service since so many of our members are continuing with some degree of remote work.

Election timeline

For uncontested positions, the timeline ends on September 24 with the nominee's acceptance of their nomination. For any contested positions, the entire timeline applies.

  • 9/3 — Call for nominations
  • 9/17 — Close of nominations
  • 9/24 — Accept/decline deadline
  • 9/24 — Ballots mailed to homes
  • 10/8 — Close of voting 12 noon; ballot counting 1 pm
  • 10/14 — EC certification

Positions for special election

Members interested in joining the Executive Council—i.e., in the areas marked currently vacant below—can learn more about being an EC rep on the FA website and/or by contacting me.

The EC meets monthly during the academic year, typically on the second Thursday at 3:45 pm. We are working on a plan to continue allowing remote attendance, especially for our adjunct EC reps.
