Executive Council elections
Cynthia Eaton

  Your vote matters!

As a result of the state-required pandemic quarantine in the spring, the FA elections committee and Executive Council (EC) had voted to postpone our spring EC elections until this fall semester.

And now, because the college is continuing mostly remote instruction and work, we will be conducting these elections by U.S. Postal Service.

There are 17 positions that are up for election from the spring, plus we have four vacancies. Members in these 21 constituencies have already received their call for nomination forms via email sent on September 2.

Election basics

  • The EC is the policy making body of the FA. Duties of the council and its elected representatives are on pages 11-12 of our Constitution and Bylaws (Article II Sections B and C).

  • You may only nominate EC reps in your own area; outside nominations will be disregarded.

  • As noted in the FA Elections Procedures, nominees must be members in good standing.

  • EC reps elected at this point will not serve a full two-year term; they will serve until the final EC meeting of the spring 2022 semester, typically held in late May or early June.

  • Nominations must be submitted using the official form and be received in the FA office no later than September 24. Submit your nominations:
  • by email: anita@fascc.org

  • by post office:

    Southampton 224J
    Suffolk Community College
    533 College Road
    Selden, NY 11784

Election timeline

The election timeline, as approved by our elections committee and EC, is as follows:

  • 9/2 — Call for nominations
  • 9/24 — Close of nominations
  • 10/5 — Nominations accept/decline
  • 10/6 — Ballots mailed to homes
  • 11/6 — Close of voting 12 noon
            — Ballot counting 1 pm
  • 11/12 — EC certification

The 17 positions that were rolled over from the spring are listed in the February issue of The WORD.

The current vacancies are on the Executive Council page of the FA website. We would very much like to see all of these vacant positions filled!

If you are in one of these 21 constituencies and did not receive an email, contact me right away: cynthia@fascc.org. It may be that we need to update your email address on file in the FA.
