Election season in the FA: Here's what's new
Cynthia Eaton

  FA Elections Procedures

In accordance with the FA's newly revised and updated Elections Procedures, we announce the annual elections timeline below, and the official call for nominations will commence on February 19.

The elections committee has been very busy, and thanks to the good work of an elections procedures review subcommittee, we now have a freshly updated FA Elections Procedures document on our website, as approved by the Executive Council at our February 11 meeting.

As you know, every spring the FA holds elections for positions on the Executive Council in accordance with our Elections Procedures. As with all odd-numbered years, this year includes the officers and our delegates to the AFT and NYSUT representative assemblies.

You'll note that the elections timeline below is a bit different. Because we're still fully remote, voting not only in all college-wide constituencies but also in any contested campus-based constituencies will again need to be conducted by U.S. Postal Service as was done last year. Thus, the elections committee feels it's important to build in more time later in the timeline for our union printer to get all of those ballots and materials prepared, which means our call for nominations period has been shortened.

I share below the timeline for this spring's elections as well as the officers, delegates and EC reps whose terms are expiring (names are in parenthesis). If you wish to make a nomination, please be sure to follow the instructions when completing and returning the official nominations form. Since I intend to run for office again this year, the election committee has elected from their membership Kerry Carlson to serve as acting chair from the call for nominations date, February 19, to the EC approval of election results on May 13. Direct all inquiries to Kerry Carlson.
