  adjunct section of FA website

The FA website features a section just for adjunct colleagues. If you don't find the information you need there, contact Kim Ng Southard for assistance.

Season greetings!

The FA recognizes your efforts during the pandemic and thanks all of you for putting in the extra time to complete your assignments during a remote semester. We wish you a well-deserved winter break and happy new year.

Before sharing my updates, I encourage you to read about the FA’s new adjunct task force.

Adjunct raises and retro pay

The current contract states that adjuncts will get a 2% increase to their wages in 2020, 2.5% in 2021, and 2.5% in 2022. However, the 2% increase was not paid to you during the spring 2020 semester; it was deferred as per our negotiated MOA we signed with administration over the summer. On Thursday, October 29, adjunct members who had an assignment during the spring 2020 semester should have received a retro paycheck. This retro pay is for the 2% increase that went into effect February 1, 2020.

Observations

There have been several questions regarding observations this semester. Your chair has the right to observe your class/duties, limited to a reasonable number per year according to the contract. You have the right to have an FA peer observer to witness the observation. You also have the right to respond to your chair’s or supervisor's comments and recommendations on the B form. Because most assignments are remote this semester, the chair will follow DE Observations and Evaluations. If you are a member and need a peer observer, contact me so that I can help you identify a peer.

As a reminder, the FA website contains specific information for adjuncts, with sections devoted to adjuncts on the website menu and in a browse-by menu of The WORD. Click the website menu on the top left of the home page to open the scroll down screen to find the adjunct section. Click The WORD link on the website menu to open the menu and scroll down to the browse by links to find articles related to adjuncts.
