Student registration drives: The FA will again host student voter registration drives during the last two weeks of September and first week of October. October 11 is the deadline for in-person registration or for a mail-in registration to be postmarked. If you'd like to help introduce students to this most critical of civic responsibilities, contact Dante (dantem@fascc.org) or Cynthia (cynthia@fascc.org).
Visit the FA website or follow us on our social media sites for the times and locations of our registration drives.

  • 10/25 new member bagel brunch: FA officers will be on hand to welcome new FA members during a bagel brunch on Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m. Information will be sent to new members and their assigned faculty peer mentors.

  • 10/27 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Eastern: Join TEAM FA on Sunday, October 27, at 8 a.m. on the Eastern Campus for the annual Making Strides event. If you can't attend, please donate to our team at main.acsevents.org/goto/FA.

  • Correction: In the June 2019 issue of The WORD, Dante Morelli wrote that AME's contract was settled. While the AME county contract is finalized, the AME contract at the college is not; they are currently in negotiations. They have been without a contract for three years, and we stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in AME in hopes that they receive a fair contract soon.

  • The WORD editorial policy: The WORD is the voice of our local. This is our primary vehicle for bringing members, on a regular basis, the views and actions of the leaders. Throughout the publication will be descriptions and reports on the union’s programs, positions and politics as well as showing the variety of ways dues are expended. It is our intent to publish 6 to 8 issues per year.

This newsletter, unlike a newspaper, is not designed to have a letters to the editor column nor does it accept an advertisement unless it has been screened and approved as a member benefit by NYSUT or AFT. The FA will receive a rebate for each NYSUT/AFT ad it runs in an issue of The WORD.

The WORD is also the voice of its members. Articles about the Faculty Association, its members and their concerns are welcome. All articles should contribute positively to the welfare of the Faculty Association and its members. We will not accept partisan articles or articles which attack any union leader or member. We will accept a thoughtful discussion of all related issues of concern to FA members. We reserve the right to edit articles not only for space and content but also those that seem to reflect a misunderstanding of the union and its policies or those which contain misinformation. The editors are the final authority for all editorial decisions.

In the event of any inadvertent misstatement or factual error, the correction will be made in the next issue of The WORD.
