A core tenet of unionism is supporting one another in our shared communities, which is why the FA has had robust community outreach programs for decades.

The pandemic has slowed us down perhaps a little, but still the FA continues to participate in our various outreach activities—with three program highlights from the past month noted below.

Another ten "Bens" for Making Strides

Under the continued able leadership of Joan Cook, our annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign was back in person this year at the new downtown Riverhead location.

Joan reports that we have once again surpassed our annual $1,000 (ten $100 bills or ten "Bens") fundraising goal and there's still time to donate to this worthy cause before year's end.

Community outreach chair Joan Cook gives a huge thank you to the members who walked with us and/or donated to our team:

FA brings Thanksgiving donations to three campus food pantries

With so few students on campus, the FA knew that we couldn't make our usual $400 worth of grocery donations to each of the three campus food pantries. So this year we did the next best thing: We purchased and delivered $25 supermarket gift cards that students can use to keep themselves nourished and healthy; we rely on the individuals running each pantry to know if a particular student needed more than one card this year.

In mid-November, FA President Dante Morelli delivered gift cards to the Ammerman and Grant pantries, and FA Secretary Cynthia Eaton delivered to the Eastern Campus pantry.

Professors on Wheels seeks volunteers

Wheels chair Christina Bosco has announced that area facilities are eager to have in-person presenters as well as video presentations for their senior residents. The FA has long brought educational programming to area nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and now you can choose whether to participate in person or by video.

Email Christina to volunteer for a Professors on Wheels presentation in the winter 2022 or spring 2022 terms.
