Join us for a distance education mini Professional Development Day

Save the date for April 21 dE event

After our distance education presentation on Professional Development Day on February 28, a handful of faculty approached my co-presenter, Josh Wolfson, and me and said, “Wouldn’t it be great if the college had a PDD just focused on distance ed?”

It made us incredibly happy to reply to those people, “You know what? DEC is currently planning to do just that on April 21!”

Credit where credit is due, the idea came from Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs Lauren Tacke-Cushing who has been attending our Distance Education Committee (DEC) meetings for the past two years. We were discussing different ways to share some of the pedagogical advice and strategies we have been developing, and Lauren suggested something like a mini-PDD just for distance ed.

The committee loved the suggestion and my DEC co-chair, Dean Liz Spagnola, and I are putting the finishing touches on the plans right now.

This will be an on-campus event held on Friday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Millie Green Room, Babylon Student Center, at the Ammerman Campus.

(Yes, it is fully on campus. We will plan some shorter workshops in the future for which participants can attend via Zoom, but given the length and style of this event, particularly the roundtables, remote options really are not feasible.)

Our draft agenda will look something like what’s below. Things are still in flux over the next two weeks, but this provides a general overview. We are finalizing the roundtable topics but we have confirmed tables focused on Universal Design for Learning, student alerts, artificial intelligence, DE teaching hints/tips/tricks and, we hope, one on proctoring solution suggestions.

Please join us on April 21 using this DE professional development registration form.
