FYI: Highlights from the Executive Council and other news of note

  Happy new year with fireworks

The 2nd Annual FA/Guild Winter Party will help ring in the new year with good cheer, as we honor our retirees and celebrate this year's member excellence award recipients. Contact Anita to celebrate with us; details at left.

  • Save the date for FA/Guild winter party on January 20, 2022: The second annual FA/Guild winter party will be held at the Bellport Country Club on Thursday, January 20, from 6 to 10 pm, complete with a welcome from SCCC President Bonahue, a buffet dinner and dancing.

We will be honoring FA retirees from the past two years as well as congratulating this year's FA member excellence award winners. (You can read about the 2021 award winners in the February 2021 issue of The WORD.)

Due to pandemic safety protocols, seats are limited, so RSVP by emailing and arranging payment with Anita immediately; she is processing RSVPs on a first come, first served basis. Cost is just $20 per person but each FA and Guild member is limited to one guest. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships. Make checks payable to the Faculty Association and mail to Anita by December 23 at 224J Southampton Building, Selden NY 11784.

  • EMHP announces new health care advocates program for members: Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield has a new program of nurse care managers to assist members during these stressful times. It's a team of registered nurses, supported by clinical experts, who will work to help you get the best care possible. Depending on your needs, a nurse care manager might help you: find out more about your health issue and your treatment options, talk with your doctors and the rest of your health care team (and encourage them to talk with each other), review your health plan to help you save money and get the most value from your plan, connect with resources near you like home care services and community health programs, or take steps to make healthy changes in your life. Call 800-939-7515 and ask for Case Management or learn more in these fliers: Facing a health issue? We can help, Personal support for your health, It's your call, A caring team to help guide you.

  • FA conflict mediation program can help improve work relationships: As a reminder, the FA established a conflict mediation program years ago as a way to help members work through some of the issues that inevitably arise given the diversity of ideas and opinions at such a large institution. Our nine trained conflict mediators provide a safe, confidential space for our members to manage and potentially resolve conflict between or among members, or between our members and other college personnel such as administrators or support staff. Check out the CMP on our website today or email Dante to learn more.

  • Faculty Association and Benefit Fund closings: During the holiday season, the FA office will be closed on December 23, December 24 and December 30. In addition the FA Benefit Fund office will be closed December 23, December 24 and December 31.

  • Wintersession 2022 checks: According to payroll, faculty who teach during the wintersession will receive one check on January 13.

  • Finding your total annual dues for your taxes: There's a new way to find your total amount of dues paid from January to December 2021 for tax filing purposes: In MySCCC, click the Employees tab, then click into the Employee Dashboard.
