Each fall and spring, the college announces a deadline for adjunct certification requests (advertised in the Adjunct Update in The WORD and in on the annual FA wall calendar) by which adjunct colleagues can request to be certified for more courses/assignments.
As noted in our mission and vision page, one of our core objectives as an academic union is to foster educational excellence.
We also are well aware of the extremely high cost of living on Long Island, that food instability is a growing problem across Suffolk County, that students on our campuses are not immune to these social forces—and that it's really hard to focus on your studies when you're feeling hungry.
The FA hosts an annual retirement workshop and/or a financial skills workshop called From Hire to Retire.
The fall 2023 workshop, co-sponsored by the FA and Guild, was held on Friday, October 6, in the Montauk Point Room.
The mission of the FA awards committee is to recognize and celebrate the valuable work done by members in four areas: mentoring, FA service, adjunct excellence, and community outreach/social justice.

Adjunct/overload check pay periods begin the sixth week of the fall/spring semester. You will receive a total of seven checks for the semester. Visit the September and February issues of The WORD for specific dates each year.
